Maryland Wear and Carry Permit/HQL Training
Initial (16 hours) -$275.00    Renewal (8 hours) - $150.00

 

This course not only satisfies the Maryland training requirement for both the Maryland HQL and Handgun Permit but will also cover defensive pistol skills. This class is designed for individuals who wish to learn defensive concepts, basic pistol skills and knowledge, and be able to apply for the Maryland Handgun Permit and HQL. Individuals interested in taking this course must be able to legally possess a firearm. This course will not only include the state requirements, but will also cover more advanced concepts and participants should be familiar with their firearm and its function.  Valuable experience for individuals interested in taking this course could include some sort of Basic Pistol instruction, or even basic pistol knowledge from personal experience.  If during the course any individual acts in a unsafe manner the instructor has the right to dismiss them from the course without refund.

Many more beginners are seeking out training to obtain their Md. Wear and Carry Permit/HQL.  This course can be tailored to the students experience level.  Students who do not own an appropriate handgun are able to use a "loaner" handgun and other gear if they do not yet own their own. (additional fee applies)  Also, if any interested person wants to be sure they are prepared before the course a private lesson can be arranged.  Click HERE for information on private instruction.

This course can also be scheduled as a private course if a group is interested such as a family, church security group, business group, or group of friends.  Course minimum of 4 for a group class.  (Contact information below for any questions or to set up a group course.)

To Participate in the course students will need the following:

  • A notebook, you may want to take some notes.

  • Comfortable clothes, the first day of the course is inside, however dress for the weather the second day as the range is outdoors. (Be sure to include a “cover garment”)

  • Ear and Eye protection is required.

  • A drink or snack for breaks and a lunch

  • Your Pistol, it must be at least 9mm or .38 and you must be familiar with its operation. 

  • Holster (NO IWB or Serpa type permitted), at least two magazines if semi auto and two speed loaders if revolver.  A magazine or speed loader holder/holster is highly recommended but not required.

  • 200-250 Rounds of Ammo for range/qualification day (this may vary depending on the progress of the participants)

  • If you are taking this class as a security professional, you will need your duty gear.

Any full courses offered, such as Permit Courses, HQL, etc., can be done for 1-2 people, however additional cost may apply.

From the Maryland State Police Website:

The Wear and Carry Permit Course is 16 hours of instruction for an original application and 8 hours of instruction for a renewal application. The approved training is offered by a Qualified Handgun Instructor and will include instruction on state firearm law, home firearm safety, handgun mechanisms and operation, and a component that requires the applicant to demonstrate gun safety and proficiency with a minimum score of 70% accuracy.
